This is an old lavender hybrid dating back to the early 1800's. It is similar to the new hybrid 'Goodwin Creek Grey' and a hybrid from the 1890's, Lavandula x allardii. All three are hybrids of French lavender, L. dentata. Heterophylla is taller than 'Goodwin Creek Grey' and shorter than x allardii. The leaves of all three are slightly indented; the foliage of x heterophylla is greenish grey while the other two are much more woolly. The flowers of x heterophylla are sweeter in fragrance and more like English lavenders in appearance. All three do well in humid, hot climates and all three will bloom indoors if given enough light (5 hours direct sun per day) and warmth.
