This is a large, imposing plant. A close relative of the artichoke, it has similar long, spiny grey leaves and tall branching stalks of prickly, purple tufted flowers. The leaf stalks are edible, with an artichoke-like flavor and the flowers are nice fresh or dried. This plant cannot be shipped to California.
